Let’s embrace technology, for our students!

Technology, it's everywhere! ESPECIALLY in the classroom. When I was in grade 8, I was finally given a cell phone. I was allowed to send 50 text messages a day. It took me about 1 week to learn how to use it. Now, we walk into restaurants and see kids on iPads, using their parents phones to play games, using their OWN phones to play games. A lot of people shake their heads, they see it as a new age phase that is robbing kids of human experience and learning. But I wonder, should we fight this? Or should we embrace it? Should we find ways to help students use technology to their learning benefit?
I believe technology provides us with an opportunity to connect with students. If we can integrate technology in our class rooms to help students connect to learning, then we can change the way we view technology as a whole, and the way students view technology. Check out this link for some helpful tips and tools for integrating technology in the classroom! (And check out the video linked in the website!)

Creative Writing Activity for Halloween

I thought sharing this activity that I came across for another class will be a great resource to consider if you ever want your students to practice creative writing in class.

This activity is suitable for grade 3-6 and you can tweak it as much as you want according to their writing level. The activity is called "Roll A Story" and can be easily found on the web. This is a great activity to embrace student's creativity when it comes to writing. Not only is it fun but it also helps them build their vocabulary.

The package comes with the game itself, a rubric for educators to assess the student's work, organizer, and list of transition words that they can use when creating their story. Finding creative ways to teach children in school is very essential and I think it should be incorporated on a daily basis.

You can find it by clicking here >>> ROLL A STORY

Hope you find this resource useful and helpful!

Art Class Made Easy

While observing an art class during my placement in a Grade 5 class I was introduced to "Art for Kids Hub". This amazing channel on YouTube is made up of Rob, his wife, and their four kids, who as a family love to draw and want to share it with the world. Their channel consists of dozens of step by step videos that teach you how to draw anything from nature to Disney characters as well as many tutorials for different seasonal and holiday inspired drawings such as Halloween and Christmas.
This channel could be used as a great tool as a teacher when doing Art class due to the variety of options that it offers whether it's used as a series option for instruction or as a fun holiday class activity. These videos will appeal to many types of learners as you get the visual and auditory instruction all while putting it into practice. As well, these tutorials are done with both an adult and child drawing, showing the diversity in everyone's artistic styles.

Seeing these videos being put into action in the classroom was truly fun and interesting. The students all appeared to be engaged, they were committed and focused on their drawings, while also having fun. They were able to collaborate and give friendly feedback to their classmates and were able to see the different ways everyone interprets the instructions.

As someone who is a visual learner and also enjoys more creative, artsy pursuits, I would have loved to see something like this in the classroom as a student.
