Edmodo helps teachers build their classroom beyond the brick and mortar walls of the school. It is an online forum similar to one like Canvas or Moodle, that facilitates student collaboration and learning in an online medium. In Edmodo, teachers can send messages to the class, share materials and resources, and support student learning from anywhere. Students can become digital citizens and take responsibility for their learning. They build independence, confidence, communication and collaboration skills. Edmodo can be used as a form of communication between parents and their child's educator, they will be able to remain updated and in the loop on their child's education, as well as have the resources they need to support them at home.
Edmodo also assists in the organization of student documents for both the student and the teacher. Students can turn in their assignments and store files on Edmodo so they can be accessed from anywhere, and remain accessible for them and their teachers. The overall goal of Edmodo is that they want to create a support system that connects learners and educators while providing them all the resources they need in order to create and engage in an ideal learning environment where everyone can succeed. Students are able to reach out to one another and support one another beyond the classroom. The collaboration that happens on Edmodo can save time in class by storing reminders, homework tasks, and facilitating student discussion. Students reaching out to one another at home with homework questions can help alleviate the amount of time the teacher spends re-teaching and clarifying the lessons the next day.
Edmodo is a FREE resource for educators and can be accessed online and through an app!
As a student that has been part of a classroom that uses Edmodo, I can say that the vibrant colours, easy use, and overall experiences are positive for all; educators, students, and parents. It has so many benefits packed into one great resource for your classroom!
Make sure you don't just take my word for it, take the words of experienced educators:
