We must teach them that what they post on the internet can be PERMANENT and has the potential to follow them for the rest of their lives. Certain content posted on the internet can have an effect on how employers view them for job opportunities, how schools may look at students' social media for scholarships, admission, etc. More importantly, how certain individuals can use the information others' post online to cause harm.
Teaching students signs of scams is important to protect their financial interests. Having them play around with their privacy settings on social media accounts is important as their photos may be taken and used without their permission.
All of these important aspects of internet and technology use students may not have prior knowledge of. As teachers, it is our job to equip students with the proper information to protect them from harm when using the internet.
