Theories on Learning

Coming from a background in Early Childhood Education, one of the biggest points put forth was to always build learning upon the interests of the children. Children learn more willingly and eagerly when the topic is of interest to them. By building upon and furthering learning through the interests of the children, educators are also showing interest in the children's learning, as opposed to guiding the learning of the children.

Grasping the interest of children and struggling to keep them engaged in a subject that they have little to no interest in is difficult, especially throughout the Primary years of school. Though through observing, listening and questioning, educators have the opportunity to discover the interests of the children and to create learning opportunities through these interests.

Teachers have a great opportunity to form the minds of their students, by building upon their interests and furthering their engagement and concentration in their learning.
