A trauma-informed classroom is one that promotes a safe space for all students. Many people question if 'safe spaces' are truly safe. A safe space is one that is welcoming, understanding, and empathetic. Trauma can be triggered unexpectedly. The ACE's quiz not only helps educators understand their own triggers, but what may trigger other students.
ACEs are very common. Students will not understand this concept but can be triggered from them unknowingly and subconsciously. ACEs are crucial in understanding the development of children because they can affect their academic achievement, health, and lead to poor outcomes in their adult life.
ACEs are not permanent. There are ways to work though trauma. Therapeutic interventions can help mitigate the effects of trauma. Having a trauma informed classroom that promotes mindfulness, has intervention strategies, the arrangement of the classroom and overall classroom management can help to support any students who may be exposed to triggers.
