Classroom Management: The Good Deeds Jar

Classroom management is procedure through which instructors and institutions generate and maintain appropriate student behaviour in classroom settings is known as classroom management. Maintaining classroom management establishes and preserves an organized classroom atmosphere as well as enhances meaningful academic learning while also promoting social and emotional development.

Through my teaching and camp counsellor experiences, I have learned various strategies to maintain proper classroom management. One strategy that I have used often is the use of a good deed jar.

Used by teachers and students alike, a good deeds jar is used to promote good behaviour and kindness within the classroom. The concept of a good deeds jar is simple, the teacher or student acknowledges a student that either positively impacted their day, was helpful around the classroom or did a nice gesture. This is done by writing on a piece of paper the deed that the student did, and on the back write who wrote it. At the end of the week/month a certain number of deeds can be selected for a prize. The good deeds jar promotes positive behaviour and kindness within a classroom. Students are inclined to behave and treat others with kindness through the chance of being acknowledged and complemented at the end of the week. Through these acts of kindness, the student can learn and develop their character education as students will learn from their peers as well as apply themselves to be the best student they can be.
