Offering students rewards in the classroom is an effective strategy as it can increase student attendance, improve effort, and develop motivation. When students know that a reward is obtainable if they complete a certain task they often push themselves much harder than they would without one. This is called a "conditional reward". It is especially useful if students show little interest in a particular subject and require motivation to complete a classroom activity. However, it is important that we use conditional rewards in moderation as they are addictive. If they are offered to students too frequently they become reliant on these rewards.
The following strategies can be used to manage rewards in the classroom:
1) Sticker or Point System
2) Currency or Token System
3) Raffle Tickets
Possible rewards given to students using these strategies are:
1) Candy/Chocolate
2) A raffle ticket
3) Points or play money for the classroom store
4) School supplies/toys
