As future educators, we understand how important it is to create fun and interactive lessons for students. These lessons allow students to get excited about what they are learning and practice the concepts through engaging activities. Pear Deck is an application I have stumbled across that creates engaging lessons for students. I used this application when I was helping to create fun and interactive presentations about french grammar for a grade 3 classroom. The great thing about this application is that you can add it to any presentation you have created on Google Slides as an Add-On extension. I was able to create activities throughout my lessons, such as drawing questions, multiple choice questions, short answer questions and matching questions. These are only a few features that educators can select from Pear Deck. The students join the application using a code specific to the presentation.
The students and the teacher loved this application when I introduced it to the classroom I was volunteering in. They had a lot of fun engaging in the activities, increasing their participation during lessons. Pear Deck also allows you to choose if you want to make the presentation instructor-paced or student-paced. The instructor-paced feature enables the educator to control the slides, and the students follow along with the educator. The student-paced feature allows students to complete the activities at their own pace and control the speed of the presentation. This feature allows teachers to choose which pace they feel would work best and benefit their students.
There are a lot of tutorials on the internet about how to use Pear Deck. A Premium Plan is available at an additional cost, but the free plan still includes excellent resources to create fun and engaging lessons for any classroom. I used it in the grade 3 classroom I volunteered in, but I also used it in my university classes, and it was successful. I plan on buying the Premium Plan when I become a teacher to continue creating these engaging lessons and adding more interactive features to my lessons.
