Being an educator guarantees that I will be speaking in front of a crowd for the remainder of my working life. The workshop, From classroom to the entire school: Public speaking tips for any audience was very beneficial for me, and I believe is a workshop many should take. The workshop was run by a gentleman named William Bressette, and he has developed many tips and tricks to aid in public speaking.
During the workshop, participants were taught about many different aspects of public speaking, including but not limited to: elements of voice control, physical presence, kinds of questions, and types of questions. The workshop was presented similarly to a lecture, where information was given to us. Mr.Bressette left room after each concept for questions and clarification. A difference from Epstein's presentation was the incorporation of a group activity, where we had the opportunity to practice developing questions for a fairy tale. The skills and tips I obtained from this workshop will be significant to my future in education, as public speaking is a large part of my career. Having the confidence and tools to enhance my ability to present information for my students is an imperative part of teaching. There are many ways these skills can be used in my classroom, and I can even recall a situation where these skills would have aided me in the past. In one of my placements, the students were required to present their book reports to the class, and many struggled. If I had all these tips and information regarding how to confidently present information, I believe it would have aided the students. This workshop's contents are ones I will be keeping and sharing with my future students.
