In week 2 of our Learning and Development course, the class learned about many interesting topics. My favourite part of a presentation we had and what I'll be focusing on in this blog is "confidence". This material was presented by [a group of my peers], Group E, during the 'key' section of the class.
This presentation piqued my interest, especially as someone who has lacked confidence in the past. Having a growth mindset to grow that confidence was something I could absolutely relate to. My public speaking skills were less than adequate as a kid, partially due to how shy I was. I was always scared to try new things and didn't want to embarrass myself. However, entering high school, that was really something I wanted to work on and improve as I wouldn't magically become better overnight. To do this, I would purposely throw myself into activities and classes where public speaking was a necessity. In particular, joining my high school Drama class, which at first was extremely scary, turned into the most influential experience that helped improve. I was super interested in all the plays and presentations we were assigned which slowly helped me improve my confidence in public speaking. The constant projects which ended in me presenting to the rest of the class is likely the reason why my public speaking skills are far improved today.
It goes to show that having a growth mindset and putting in the effort to improve can absolutely make a difference.
