Plickers is an interactive and fun way for teachers to assess students. Easy to use, really!
Teachers simply sign up for a free account, either on their mobile device or on a computer, and create their "New Classroom" which allows up to 63 students per class.
Teachers then create a "New Set" of questions to assess students. They will create their questions and provide multiple choice answers for each question as well as an image to go along with each question.
Plickers then automatically assigns each student a number. Teachers then print off a card for the student that is unique to each student. Cards look like this:
Once the cards and numbers have been assigned, teachers will print them off and hand them out to each student. The number on the card will coincide with the number assigned to each student. Using their mobile device, the teacher will go around and scan the cards as students hold them up. This will check students in and allow them to play along. The questions will be displayed on the web page and projected on the board, allowing students to read the questions and multiple options. Students will rotate the card to choose A, B, C, or D depending on which answer they think is correct. While they hold up their cards, the teacher will circulate the classroom and scan the students' answers. Once all students have answered the question, the correct answer will be displayed.
After each question has been answered, the number of students who answered the question correctly will be displayed instantly. More specific results for each student will be available to teachers for viewing after they are finished playing.
This method of assessing students is a great way to keep students engaged as opposed to the traditional method of assessment through pencil and paper quiz taking. Finishing a lesson with a quick Plickers game is a great way to test your students to ensure they were paying attention during the lesson and understand the material they have been taught.
Since teachers can later view the results of the game, teachers can see which areas students are struggling in and they can review these areas and re-assess the class at a later date.
