Remind is an easy and straightforward app to communicate with parents and teachers regarding any future assignments, trips or upcoming events within the classroom or school. The app can be used for ANY grade level! I found the app incredible for teachers to quickly and effectively engage with parents about upcoming events when agendas or letters home fail to reach a child's guardian in a timely manner. Remind was built for education, a remedy for quick interactions with students and parents, FREE of charge. During placement, I had the pleasure of witnessing my host teacher use Remind to message parents and guardians about bringing in the necessary materials for an upcoming science project. This was interesting for many reasons, primarily, the app was straight forward and rather easy to follow. The teacher was able to reach the greatest amount of parents within seconds, an issue raised in parent teacher interviews, as many complained about not seeing agenda notes or receiving letters home at the beginning of the year. With this app, teachers can create mass messages, sending out general texts for all to read. Personally, I might aspire to use this app to build relationships with parents, discussing concepts covered in class, making them feel part of the classroom, whether or not they are able to physically be there.
Possible barriers of the app may include students or parents who MAY NOT possess a digital device, creating a definite barrier. This may lead to stress on both parents and students, as a wide range of issues can arise such as mental or emotional anxiety. Some communities may not obtain the means to support this app, making the choice to use this tool as a decision made by the educator dependant on time, space and location.
