Barcodes in the Classroom

In the uncertain times we are living in currently, it is safe to say that we are relying on technology for teaching and learning more than ever before. Before this Covid-19 pandemic, technology has been incorporated in every day learning as a new competency, but this does not always make things easier for everyone involved: teachers, students and especially parents.

Coming from personal experience both as a student and as an educator, I would experience some hiccups in how technology was used to get the lesson across. As a student I would receive work that both myself and my parents could not understand, leaving me not attempting it at all. Now as an educator, I hear this sentiment being expressed years later by my students' parents who have trouble helping their child in homework completion. A modern way to help both students and their parents is by incorporating QR Barcodes in homework sheets that will redirect the parent to a video or web page that explains and guides them to complete the work. This barcode practice can be a great way to keep parents involved in their child's studies at home, help teachers use it as a clarification method, and most importantly provide important and necessary information to everyone with a click of a button.
