The Use of Google Jamboard in Classrooms Today
With the increased use of technology in the classroom, teachers are constantly looking for a way to keep the students interested and actively participating. One method that I came across while supplying in a kindergarten classroom was Google Jamboard.
What is Google Jamboard?
It is a collaborative whiteboard used to create and edit content with other users. If you have a student's online, or even a hybrid classroom, it is an easy way to get them to interact with each other without actually being together. They are all able to write their own answers down on sticky notes and can utilize basic drawing tools.
What are the benefits of using this?
I think that using Jamboards is an easy and effective way to keep everyone interested and participating. When I was supplying in a hybrid classroom, it was hard to maintain an appropriate level of attention and participation from both the in-class students and the online ones. A lot of the tasks were explained to the online students first, and then the in-person ones, creating a split in the class. Asking questions and playing games where both groups can participate can get them all interested in the lesson and can grab their attention to work as a team and problem solve together. It is also beneficial that these Jamboards can be saved for use before and after classes as a reference point.
What are some things that you can do on Google Jamboard?
à Work as a group
à Work with Google Drive
à Host meetings
à Collaborate with any device
à Play educational
I found that a lot of the younger students enjoyed playing games while using Jamboard, and it was so easy to create and utilize. We played hangman easily on it, which is such an easy way to incorporate so many learning goals (i.e., literacy, spelling, problem solving etc.).
It is also an easy way to make a to do list and show learning goals and outcomes for the students to see and contribute to!
