Tactile Finger Tracing Letters

During a previous placement I had a handful of students who could not identify certain letters in the alphabet and could not write those specific letters. I made these tactile finger tracing letters that the children could use to practice. This allowed to motivate these learners by giving them a different option to learn instead of just using a regular pencil and paper. You can also start working on the phonetic aspect of the alphabet once they become familiar with it.

There are many benefits of using tactile letters, younger students enjoy objects as it is sensorial, and they can feel and move their hands along the letters. This gives the children to enhance their letter recognition skills and give the children the opportunity to learn the movements of each letter shape. They can also use the letters as a guide to spells words using the manipulatives by arranging the cards in a specific order to. This would also be an amazing resource to have in the kindergarten because it follows play-based learning. It is a different form of introduction to literacy, instead of the regular practice of Reading and Writing. From personal experience I believe that this is a resource every teacher should have amongst other to encourage literacy growth in their classroom.
