The Genderbread Person

The Genderbread Person is an uncopyrighted, free resource that provides a visual representation of some of the terminology related to gender and gender expression. One the website, you can download an already created Genderbread Person as seen below. On the completed Genderbread Person, it has the specific terminology that they use to describe the different parts of the Genderbread Person. It then goes into more detail to explain the terms using visual representations.

In addition to the completed version, there is also a worksheet available for download where you or your students could input the terminology themselves. This may be a good resource for students to use either during or after the lesson. It also will provide the student with a copy that they can take home to think about gender and gender identity and what it means to them.

Another resource on the site is a Genderbread Person poster that you are able to download. The poster is available in an 8x11 or 18x24 version. After downloading you are able to take it to any place that is able to print in colour and the size that you want. The poster goes into even more detail, providing definitions on each of the different terminology.

The Genderbread Person is a great resource to share with your students as it takes a tough topic and puts it in an easy format for students to understand.
