As we have all experienced, students become motivated and engaged when we use games in the classroom for learning. Blooket is a technological tool utilized by educators to create memorable learning experiences, where students learn the classroom content without even noticing it. It encourages students to participate and play trivia and review games to practice their learning.
When using Blooket in the classroom, teachers/hosts can either create a unique set of questions or find ones in the Discover database built by other users. A code is then generated for students/players to join the live game on their own devices. There are a variety of unique game modes to choose from, such as Factory or Café, to switch up the game every day to keep students engaged. Students can also play solo games in their free time, which I have seen lots of my students doing due to how fun the game modes are in Blooket. Not only are students having fun answering questions and competing against their peers to gain the #1 spot, but they are also reviewing relevant classroom content. As an assessment tool, the detailed score reports also help educators understand how their students are currently performing and identify areas to be reviewed in class again. The Blooket website includes tutorials for both students when they enter a game and teachers looking to become hosts.

In my virtual classroom placement, I was introduced to the new world of Blooket and saw the eagerness and enjoyment of my students when it was time to play. Since engagement is already challenging in a virtual environment, playing games to review material helped maintain student attention. For instance, at the end of each math lesson, my AT would host a pre-made Blooket game with multiplication questions for students to practice their mental math. All the students participated, even though there was no grade attached to it, and were competitive to win against their friends. This educational game was something students always looked forward to in their schedules. Blooket is so versatile with its thousands of pre-made question sets that we also used the site to review student knowledge on peer pressure for health class. Overall, Blooket changes the way students learn, creating a fun alternative from the typical paper and pencil textbook and review materials.
