Instructing children is an extremely difficult task. Although teachers sign up for this task, it is difficult to establish a connection with their students. With a classroom of students that come from different backgrounds, all of whom learn differently, and who have a unique background. Teachers need to be able to reach out and ensure that their teaching methods are positively impacting their students and that each student understands and is able to implement the material being taught.
Throughout the school year, it is crucial for teachers to explore different ways to instruct the required material. This can range from play-based learning to incorporating music and song into the classroom, to audio/visual components in order to show the class a different method of learning.
Another method that I have had a lot of positive experiences where a class goes on a field trip. Field trips are an excellent ways for students to learn about material, and often implement the topics covered in a hands-on manner. For example, when teaching a science topic, instead of just reading from the slide/textbook, bringing the class to a location such as the science center is an excellent way for them to learn about science from a hands-on method.
A second method would be to invite a guest speaker into the classroom. As a teacher, it is common for our voice to become a little bit "stale" or "routine" for our students. Having somebody come in and offer a different voice and method of teaching is a great experience for everybody involved. Although it may be difficult to gather an industry professional, having a teacher make use of personal connections is always encouraged. For example, having an author come in and read to the students.
