If you are looking for a fun fall activity to do with your students, here is a literacy and outdoor idea that is good for children kindergarten to grade 3.
Read the story The Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. Here's the YouTube link provided below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndu51wy3wFw
After reading the book, go outside and have children collect leaves, sticks, pebbles, grass, pinecones, and flowers. You can also take this time to walk around the school property and find signs of fall. Once all materials have been collected, have the children use materials to create a person, animal, or anything they would like.
When doing this activity with my kindergarten students, I found they enjoyed hunting for materials and using lots of glue to "stick" everything together. During the activity the children talked about how they would make their leaf person look like themselves. Below is an example from one of my students, regular Elmer's Glue may not be enough to "stick" things together, as the teacher you may want to use a hot-glue gun.
