~ What Teaching Looks Like through the Eyes of the Beholder ~

I was scrolling through my social media accounts the other day until I came across some content that caught my eye. That's when I began to consider the following questions:

What does it mean to teach?

What does it take to be a great teacher?

What exactly does teaching entail?

The following questions led me to one conclusion.

Teaching comes from within us, from our hearts. We have complete control over how we choose to lay out the curriculum: what we teach, and how we deliver content.

Teaching is a passion that is carried within the eyes of the beholder.

I chose to share four interesting, or as GenZ slang would say, dope content I came across on my social media platforms within this blog post that you might find useful when starting your career in education.

1.    TeacherGoals is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2014. I personally find this organization super motivating and inspiring given that the objective of the organization is to give educators inspiration and laughter to help them find joy and passion within their jobs. Through the unique content they present, they highlight what is funny, frustrating, and fantastic about education. They also provide innovative resources such as books, blogs, conferences, podcasts, and courses to help educators continue learning and growing. You can find them on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts. The links are provided below.

2.     Madison had resigned from her full-time teaching position in 2021 to deal with her mental health, at a time when Covid was at its peak. She is currently a recovering teacher, dancer, and tiktoker. Her story continues to inspire me because it emphasizes the following: even if you are doing something you enjoy, certain factors can interfere with it. Madison has not given up despite having resigned from a fantastic job. She continues to teach Kindergarten through online meetings and supplies in elementary school classrooms. Her determination to keep going and doing what she loves is something we can all admire.

3.    Noelle Cheney is an educator who rose to fame through TikTok. She primarily reviews lunches from the school cafeteria. She also enthusiastically shares her experiences as a teacher. I strongly advise you to check out her TikTok’s because her lived experience as a current educator has so much to offer those just starting out in the field of education. Her experiences not only help the person who has gone through them to grow and evolve, but they also inspire others to get a sense of what to expect when they step into the classroom for the first time.

4.     WeAreTeachers is an online media brand founded in 2007 that caters to educators. Their mission is to not only inspire but also help teachers succeed by sharing practical classroom ideas, freebies, giveaways, teacher-to-teacher advice, and humour. I find this brand to be extremely resourceful because they provide an abundance of resources that we could potentially use as future educators. Check out the links below for more information!
