Loose Parts Self-Portrait

Throughout the first week of school, the kindergarten class at my school began to create self-portraits from loose parts materials in the class.

This is a very good activity to do at the beginning of the year to have your students use loose parts to create a portrait of themselves. They used a variety of gems, sea shells, wood chips, shapes, popsicle sticks and much more to create a portrait. The teacher took a photo of each student in the class and cut it out to frame the head for each student portrait.

Then, the classroom teacher took pictures of each portrait and displayed them in the class for curriculum night at the school. These materials can be used as a future center for sorting materials as they are all reusable.
