Teaching Music in Elementary
My first day at the conference, I attended a workshop on teaching music in elementary grades. It was enlightening and inspiring. It reinforced the importance of music as a vital part of a child's overall development and provided practical strategies for making music more engaging, inclusive, and meaningful.
We created music using small, handheld instruments, and clapped, stomped, and snapped to music notes. We learned the basic music notes to create rhythms and we sang and played in unison. We also did a simple round of row, row, row your boat. I learned about simple rhythms that don't need instruments and the different beats we will need to teach out of the Arts curriculum. It was an engaging step by step process that we got to explore and demonstrate in groups.
I found this workshop engaging and meaningful. Overall, the workshop deepened my understanding of both pedagogical and emotional elements of teaching music. It equipped me with new tools and fresh perspectives to bring back to the classroom, and it renewed my commitment to making music a joyful and integral part of every child's education. I look forward to teaching music in the future.
