Technology is always advancing and is seen more and more in the classroom. I believe that it is essential to be up to date with new tools that can help assist students in their learning. Last year, I did a Long Term Occasional assignment with the Toronto Catholic District School board in a kindergarten classroom for 6 months. Due to COVID-19, I was doing my first assignment online. I was stressed out thinking about how to make learning fun for kindergarten students virtually? After doing some research online, I saw that Googles Slides was a useful tool in supporting students with their virtual learning. I spent countless amount of hours learning about all the tools Google slides has to offer and taught myself how to make it interactive for the students I was working with.
Below, I have attached some pictures of interactive google slides that I made and assigned for students to help reinforce their sounds and counting money. I got such great feedback from parents and they reached out to me and let me know that it’s a great technology tool especially for kindergartens. I highly recommend using google slides inside the classroom because you can create so many interactive and fun resources for students and is a new way to make learning fun through technology.
In kindergarten, the students learn their sounds with Jolly Phonics. The students were asked to place the picture and the words in the empty box that start with the letter “S”. In the second slide students were asked to place all the lowercase and uppercase letters in the empty box that started with the letter “S”.
Here is another interactive google slide that I made for the students to help them learn about money. The students on their computers or iPad’s had to pay for the item by placing the appropriate amount change in the empty box.
Attached are some YouTube Links that help teach how to make an interactive google slide.
