Online Resources for Learning

During my first week of placement this term, I have been introduced to Epic, an online reading resource for young learners. Epic was founded by Suren Markosian and Kevin Donahue, both are parents that wanted books to be more accessible for their children. Epic gives families and classrooms instant, unlimited access to a variety of books, videos, and quizzes to help kids everywhere read, learn and grow beyond the classroom.

There are a variety of different books ranging for children aged twelve and under, and include read-to-me books, audiobooks, and other forms of technology to make reading accessible and beneficial for all audiences. What is so great about Epic is that it provides kids with a personal library instantly that they can take with them anywhere! It is a smart, safe, and educational and fun alternative for children.

Epic is a great tool for current and future educators to keep in their back pocket. It is something that educators can incorporate in the classroom but can also extend beyond the parameters of the classroom. Children have the choice and the freedom to explore books that are interesting to them, and epic gives children the accessibility to browse thousands of books that may be eye catching to them. Epic can be incorporated into literacy content and encourages fluency practice, listening comprehension, guided reading, and even benefits for your ELL students in the classroom! Although epic is becoming more popular with virtual teaching, epic is a great resource that I will continue to incorporate in physical classroom settings as well.
