Moving Standardized Testing Online in Ontario

Moving Standardized Testing Online in Ontario

Ontario plans to move standardized testing online in an attempt to modernize large scale testing to prepare our youth for the future. Additionally, it wants to re-build parent confidence in our education system. To do this, The EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) will obtain a firm to develop this online testing platform.

This school year (2020-2021), the EQAO will be trying out this online testing platform for Grade 9 students with the standardized math test. This field test gives students the opportunity to try the new format and become a support in the development of it.

Another big claim is that this platform will "increase responsiveness to student learning needs and support student mental health and well-being by helping to make testing less stressful." (Ontario 2020). Furthermore, this platform is meant to ensure testing accessibility for students with exceptionalities, increase equity for the diverse student population and provide teachers with faster results. Obviously these claims are a lot to live up to, so what do you think.
