As we all know, communicating with parents/guardians is a big part of teachers' daily jobs.
Connecting with parents through positive communication and setting expectations at the beginning of the school year helps parents/guardians support good academic habits and classroom behaviour that will help students succeed. However, teachers must offer different ways of communication to accommodate families' diversity and needs.
Before you start, it's important to remember that not everyone has access to technology. Also, many families are newcomers and may not speak English.
With that in mind, newsletters, notes and communication books are effective ways to communicate with these families since they won't need technology to access the information. Teachers can also offer a translated newsletter when communicating.
Technological tools are great alternatives to diversify and facilitate communication between family and school. In this technological time, the most common and accessible ways are classroom apps, e-mail, and setting up a classroom website.
